Mid-morning sunlight shone through the church window, coloring the santuary in a golden hue. Silence filled the room as we waiting for the next person to share. My gaze shifted to the front pew, as an old man shuffled to his feet. It was the old pastor, now retired because of a stroke. Slowly he turned and faced the congregation. "Brothers and Sisters," he said, "God is always with us. Always." He folds his twisted hands to his chest with a sigh. "Sometimes when I'm all alone in the house, and I'm in a lot of pain, I feel that He isn't with me. But I look at my Bible...and there are the promises, over and over again. "I will never leave you", God says." He pauses, and it seems his dark eyes are fixed right on me. "There are times that we are tempted to doubt God promises. Times when we feel that God has definitely left us...but He never has. Remember the promises. Be faithful to God, even in the little things. It says in the Bible, "When the Son of man comes, will He find faith on the earth?" That is what keeps me going, even when I feel so useless." and he motions to his limp hand. "God has things for me yet. I will believe in that...it would be my greatest joy to die serving the Lord. I will be faithful 'till he calls me home. And what about you, brothers and sisters, will you be faithful to him?"
