recent life, leap day, & ramblings.

  >> It's leap day; that day that only comes once every 4 years. It does a lot to us. It gets us thinking...wondering...and dreaming of four years down the road of life. Where we'll be, what we'll be doing, and what will happen in between.

>> It's springtime. It's that beautiful, sunny, hopeful, time of year. We're planning our garden, and the first flowers of spring have shown their golden heads.

>> Have you ever noticed how you can be extremely, busy but still feel like you're doing nothing? Life feels quiet, and the skies feel big. Ever felt that way??

February days

These are the days of quiet. The rainy days when we gaze out the window and hope for sunshine. When the snow flies, and is gone by sunset. Impatiently waiting for springtime, we watch green begin to emerge from the earth. Life is dull, and we'll all dreaming of warm days. Life goes slowly, rain falls frequently, and our eyes are meeting the window with hope for sunshine. It's the bridge between winter and springtime. It's February and time is moving slow. These are the February days.

project//finding inspiration

Late winter is a time when inspiration is hard to find. Maybe its just the time of year or the weather, or that we're all feeling kinda lazy. I don't know...but there are things we can do about it. Here are some of the things that help me to get re-inspired.

Look around. Inside, outside...I don't care. But there's a lot more beauty around than we would usually think. If it's too cold outside...take pictures inside! Find some of your favorite books or decor and snap away!

Go outside. So what if it's freezing! Spending time outside is a great way to find inspiration...and they'll always be more.

Be creative and experiment: take pictures of things you would normally even notice. Experiment with editing, focus etc. Who knows what you'll come up with, and even if it's not beautiful, maybe it'll give you an idea for something else.

Learn: Learn more about your camera and what you can do with it. Then go and experiment!

Go places: don't just sit at home! Go places around your town or neighborhood and shoot away! Not only do you get to go somewhere new with your camera, you'll also find yourself noticing details you never saw before.

Challenge yourself: don't just wait around for inspiration to find you, search for it yourself! Challenge yourself to take a certain number of photos a day, or do a 30-day-photo-challenge such as this one.

Choose a theme and look around for all the things that represent that theme or color. For example, choose the color blue, and go out and find shoot anything you see that is blue.

Change things: don't take at the same time of day of the exact same things. Think about what you do every day and do the opposite.

Get models: get together with some friends and take pictures of them look or poses on pinterest or websites like this one, and try it for yourself!

What inspires you and what do you do to get re-inspired?

February 14th//a day in review

It was a quiet day. We all enjoyed extra free time, and the simplicity of our celebration. It's strange how over the years things change, but when you get to a yearly holiday like Valentine's day some things are always the same. Every year we buy candy hearts and Mom and Dad hide them around the house. After they've all been hidden, we kids run into the room where they are hidden and begin searching. Once we've found them all we split them up six ways. This year my dad bought us girls some flowers, which I really enjoyed since we don't buy fresh flowers very often. For dinner we roasted hot dogs over a campfire pit in the back yard. All-in-all, it was a beautiful and memorable day. How was your Valentine's day?
