A walk in the country

Although we live in a subdivision, I have found a place (in walking distance) where I can satisfy my craving for the outdoors. It is my little spot where, when lost in the world held by bounderies of city fences and roads, I can steal away and catch my breath, lie and dream in the fields, drinking in the beauty all around me.

And just a little further is a field of yet unharvested corn.  I love the large variety of color in this corn field. Ah, the joys of Autumn!

I love the richness of the colors in this photo.

I love this place....my little corner of nature in the midst of metropolis.

I will return often....for "the mountains are calling me, and I must go".

What will my life show?

Last year I studied this poem in literature. When I first read it I didn't pay much attention. But then I began thinking about what it meant. The things in our lives shape us, just like the wind shapes the trees. What will my life show? I thought. How will the storms in life shape me? Will they make me hard and bitter, or will they draw me closer to God?  What will people see when they look at me?

Reminiscing

Sun behind clouds,
trees growing bare,

leaves falling slowly,
painting color everywhere.

Golden sunlight,
air growing cold,
rosy cheeks, bright eyes,
let the season unfold!

Dreams found in fields,
stories 'round the fire,

memories made in fall,
seem to never tire.

Verse of the day

If any man is in Christ, he is a new creature:
old things are passed away...all things have become new.

Autumn Memories

As the season changes, I am reminded again of the many memories I have of the years past. Although I always enjoyed the warmer weather of summer, fall and winter are times at which I become alive. The crispness of fall, with it's chilled winds, and colorful leaves, inspire me. As the winds of autumn ruffle the leaves around me, I sit and write, dreaming of fall days of old. My favorite days were the windy ones, blowing across the dry fields, whistling though the trees and touching my hair, reminding of the coming winter. Bringing out the Christmas music was always a big event, loving Christmas as I do. The cheery Christmas music filling the house created the cozy mood of autumn.

Then came the day when the sky released it's lovely creations, snowflakes. I vividly recollect excitedly pressing my nose to the window, watching snowflakes fall from the sky. The lovely whiteness would soon cover all the ground and trees, beautifying everything it touched. We would go sledding, playing in the snow, laughing together in joyous celebration of new season. When we came home, rosy cheeked and cold, we would warm our hand around the wood fire, drinking hot cocoa and telling stories. The stars always seemed brighter when it was cold, winking and smiling down at us from their lofty post. Dreams were formed there, gazing at the stars from my bedroom window, dreams that I dared to dream in days gone by. Dreams that I still dream today.
