This is the aforementioned new design. So what do ya think? It still has some quirks that I'm trying to straighten out, but overall I'm really happy with it. Does anyone know how to get rid of the white border around the header or change the tab text color?

I don't see a border around the header--I'm using Chrome as my browser.
To change the link color search for this code:
a:link {
color:#62204f;
text-decoration:none;
}
a:visited {
color:#999999;
text-decoration:none;
}
a:hover {
color:#cc6600;
text-decoration:none;
}
Then change the color value to whatever you would like. You can use this to help you find the color you want.
